Oh deer…

Oh deer…

Last weekend, I went to Knole with my family (and my camera!) At Knole, there are lots of deer roaming around – 450 to be precise! So, there was a sure chance of finding a few to photograph. Wasn’t there?

Across the golf course

At Knole, there is a large golf course in the middle of it. You wouldn’t find the deer there, but on the large wild patches of grass that have been left mainly untouched. And this is where I took these photos of the deer grazing:

Run, deer, run!

We went down and up a massive gap between two small hills. On the right-hand side, there was another part of the golf course. Lots of female deer – and the occasional male one –  came running down from the forest onto the golf course.

I quickly got out my camera, put on my telephoto lens and started snapping away. I increased the shutter speed to 1/640 (1 of 640ths of a second) so the photos wouldn’t be blurred, or, at least, to have that “freezing time” effect.

Once that finished, we moved on, away from the golf course.

Into the woods

After the golf course there was some woodland, with a few trees. It was a woodland, but then again it wasn’t.

I looked to my right and saw four or five brown deer, grazing on the grass.
